When your body tells you to slow it down, do you always listen? This week so far has been not that great for me. The migraine really did a number on me. Luckily, I had my Cornelius. I don't ever want to feel like that again, so I'm doing this thing where I'm taking better care of myself. Not like a cleanse or anything. More like a self imposed detox. I made a list of my vices and guilty pleasures (seriously, i did a pros and cons list) and decided I could really benefit from this. Starting November 1st, and for a month, well, until my cousin's wedding the day after Thanksgiving, (easier for me to keep track of dates), no Dr. Pepper ( i don't drink any other type of soda, this is my addiction) no coffee (green tea to get me going!) no Whataburger (my weakness, and there is one right across the street!) and no alcohol. Well isn't this something! I decide to quit drinking for a month, a co-worker surprises me with a very expensive bottle of Italian wine. Universe, this isn't funny! I've got goals, man.
Anyhoo, I think my body will benefit from this self-imposed detox. It's pretty rare to discuss exactly how we take care of ourselves, well, maybe you would discuss this with close family and friends. You never know how the public can perceive you. Take, for instance...me. Last month I got tested (you know....) which is a very responsible thing. No cause for alarm, its just something I do regularly. For some reason, I think its normal to talk about these things. So of course I casually mention it to a few friends. Almost everyone said "hey good job" or "where did you go, i need to go to". That's so awesome. If I can help someone in this important yet often unspoken issue, that's so great. It's important to know our health status, as taboo as the topic may seem. Of course there is always that one person that says "omg, why would you do that?" or " I've never done that". Well, I'm not married, nor am I in a monogamous relationship. I'm single. That's why I do it. I'm no one to judge anybody, the only thing I want to do is make sure I'm OK. But yikes! It's so important to know your health.
I was raised in a sort of conservative town. I didn't grow up speaking about things like this. But rather than ignore it, I think its so important to know. Awareness prevents many things. If anyone wants info, and you want to be discreet, your secret is safe with me. I'd be happy to help. I'm sure you can tell by now, I don't bring any one's names into this. Only topics and things related to me (its my blog, gosh darn it).
So let's all do our part to stay healthy! I'm only 31, but I plan on being here for a very long time. Taking care of yourself is where its at!
Anyhoo again, I'm wondering what the next 30 days will be like. I'll either be extremely grouchy or super happy. dun dun dun........
